stack of booksA number of directories and registers provide information about those working at the hospital:

  • The British Medical Directory was published in 1853 (before the compulsory registration of doctors in 1858).
  • Cambridge University Alumni entries referring to doctors and chaplains, extracted from Alumni Cantabrigienses, compiled by J. A. Venn.
  • The Medical Register has been published annually since The Medical Act 1858.
  • Registers of Electors from the 1930s give the names of staff resident in the hospital and the nurses’ hostel.
  • Trade Directories provide the names of key officials and staff, as well as information on the number of beds and patients, and on alterations to the hospital building.
