Patients 1841-47

The following entries have been extracted from the Management Committee minute books which list the patients admitted and discharged each week (and occasionally the books record those who were refused admission).

It seems that the admission details of the very earliest patients were not recorded: for instance, William Toop is listed as a discharge patient in the entry for 3 June 1841 (and he is a patient in the hospital in the 1841 census), but there is no record of his admission. The hospital’s annual report for 1841 says that three in-patients were admitted on 13 May and a further six were admitted on 20 May. However, the earliest admission in the minute book is recorded on 3 June.

The minute books for 1841-50 are among some newly identified material held at the Dorset County Hospital (temporary reference number NG/HH/DO(C)/10L/191). So far only the entries relating to 1841 have been trancribed.
